Caring for DIY Flower Arrangements

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

One of the best ways to save money for your wedding or major event is to save on flower arrangements by buying wholesale flowers and making the arrangements yourself. When you buy flowers from a florist, you have to pay for not only the florist’s marked-up costs for flowers but also for the fees that the florist will charge to actually put your arrangements together. Putting together an arrangement isn’t difficult if you choose the right type, but you need to know how to care for your DIY arrangements before you get started.

When you buy flowers from a wholesaler, you’ll have to have them shipped to you. You should arrange to have them delivered about two days before your event, since the flowers will have to be rehydrated and then arranged. Because flowers won’t be shipped in water, they’ll have to be hydrated as soon as possible when you get them.

As soon as you get the flowers, carefully remove them from their boxes, and use a sharp knife to diagonally cut their stems. Soak them in a few inches of water mixed with flower food, which you can buy from your local florist for a minimal fee. Eventually, your flowers will rehydrate and be ready to arrange.

After you arrange your flowers, you should keep them in water if at all possible. You’ll also want to keep them cool to avoid wilting. If the weather is cool, simply keep them in a shaded area, such as a garage. If you’re going to be keeping the flowers for more than a couple of days, though, you may need to actually keep them refrigerated. Don’t refrigerate them in a fridge that has food in it, though, since sometimes gas from foods can cause flowers to wilt or turn brown more quickly.

Finding the Right Rare Coin Dealer

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

If you enjoy collecting coins, your pastime can be incredibly rewarding. Not only will you have the joy and excitement of searching for and finding rare, beautiful coins, but you can make an incredible investment in your financial future at the same time. However, serious coin collectors can encounter numerous problems in their pursuit of rare coins. From fraudulent sellers to irresponsible coin dealers, you will need to ensure that you make sound decisions in your collecting. The key to creating the best collection possible is to find a good rare coin dealer.

How do you know if a particular rare coin dealer is right for your needs? As mentioned, you will find that not all coin dealers are created equal. You will find that some dealers are on the up and up, while others are a bit shadier. You will even find some that sell outright fakes. It is in your best interest to do your research prior to doing business with any coin dealer. How do you determine if a coin dealer is a viable choice? What makes a good coin dealer?

First, when you consider rare coin dealers, you should ensure that you research the dealer’s reputation. What do other customers have to say about their experience? How satisfied were other customers with their purchases? Is the dealer listed with the Better Business Bureau? While membership in the BBB is not mandatory, this can be an excellent indicator of whether the company is, in fact, on the up and up.

Next, you should consider the coins offered by the rare coin dealer. What rare coins do they offer their customers? Do they have truly rare coins on offer, or do they specialize in moderately rare coins? The difference here can be more than merely semantic. While somewhat rare coins will eventually appreciate, it will take time. Truly rare coins, that is, those with 75 or fewer remaining copies in the world, can make for amazing investment options that have an immense payout immediately, as well as down the road.

These are only a few of the things that you should check before doing business with any rare coin dealer. Doing otherwise can result in some serious problems, such as purchasing an inauthentic coin, or overpaying for a particular coin, based on misinformation. These situations can be avoided if you do the appropriate research.
