There are a number of things you can expect in every single tennis player, at least if the information on one site that prides itself of being a ‘total guide to sports’ is anything to go by.

One is that every tennis player is expected to be a strategic thinker. For tennis is not just a physical game, but also a mental game; though many of us only see the physical aspect of it.

Secondly, every tennis player is expected to be a person who can focus and concentrate. This too, is another mental aspect of tennis. All the players involved in tennis are people with high (or at least decent) concentration. Those who rate better in terms of concentration being likely to excel at tennis; provided they can they can match the concentration with physical dexterity.

All tennis players also have to be physically –and to some extent mentally – flexible. Tennis is definitely not a game for the rigid. There are games where rigidness is tolerated, even somewhat celebrated; but definitely not tennis. Indeed, it can be said that tennis is a game where it is flexibility that wins: a game where the ‘trick’ is to push your opponent’s flexibility to its frontiers.
